2023 marked the passing of one of classical music’s brightest lights, Kaija Saariaho. NYNME’s opening concert this season pays tribute to her legacy with a program based around her forceful, elegiac piano trio: Light and Matter. Iranian born Nina Barzeger’s Inexorable Passage, Alvin Singleton’s meditation on a horrific incident of racism and Corey Dundee’s musical depiction of a Noam Chomsky text round out the program.
